3D printing in Seattle's new skyscraper

3D printing in Seattle's new skyscraper
In 2020, the city of Seattle is set to welcome a new 259-meter tall skyscraper, a construction aided by 3D printing. Indeed, the company 3Diligent has just been selected to 3D print 140 components making up the curtain wall of this 58-story tower. The new building, worth $600 million, will become the second tallest building in the US city.

In the construction industry, 3D printing technologies are most often used to 3D print concrete walls directly, with the goal of providing faster, cheaper and environmentally friendly housing - last week we introduced you to Gaia, a house made from rice farming waste. But this time, the skyscraper is not 3D printed as such, but note that 3D technologies will still play an important role in its construction, much like the project revealed by Dubai two years ago.
