Rolls-Royce expands its AF unit with SLM Solutions' SLM®500 quad-laser system
Leading car manufacturer Rolls-Royce has added SLM Solutions to its production capability. The use of the SLM®500 quad-laser machine will enable the Rolls-Royce team to achieve production rates of up to 171cc whilst providing automated closed loop feeding, recovery and screening to minimise operator handling of metal powder.

Rolls-Royce already has some experience in the additive manufacturing industry, particularly in the use of the technology for the aerospace industry. For example, by 2025 the group will be manufacturing new parts for the Rolls-Royce UltraFan® engine design using ceramic matrix composites (CMC) and additive layers manufacturing (ALM). ALM allows complex engine components to be manufactured with fewer parts or in one piece...
