Chevrolet race cars travel 130,000 km with 3D printed parts
"Carmaker Chevrolet, a division of General Motors since 1918, has just announced that its race cars have covered about 130,000 miles with 3D printed parts this season. Supported by its parent company, the manufacturer is placing additive manufacturing at the heart of its developments, whether in the prototyping or finished production phases. In January 2020, for example, two new Corvettes made their debut on the circuit, each with 75 3D printed parts, including the oil tank, the fuel tank inlet and cap, the driver's cooling box and the integrated hydration system, etc.

The applications of 3D printing in the automotive industry are increasing, showing the potential of the technology in any process: manufacturers are designing brake calipers, pistons, brake pedals, and various components to customise the interior of a vehicle. Read more
