Somfy maximises the potential of FFF additive manufacturing in its R&D centre

Somfy maximises the potential of FFF additive manufacturing in its R&D centre
"For several years now, Somfy, the world leader in motorisation and automation of openings in the home, has been using additive manufacturing to produce prototypes of its future products. Initially, the company mainly used external service providers to produce its prototypes. However, with the arrival of the new generation of desktop 3D printers, Somfy has launched a new strategic reflection: should it integrate the technology into its research and development centre? If so, how can this project be implemented in the best conditions? The company called on ALSIMA, a specialist in FFF 3D printers based in Annecy, to help it in this reflection.

Prototyping remains one of the major applications of additive manufacturing today, although the trend is gradually moving towards the production of finished parts. Several studies show that 3D printing is widely used for rapid prototyping, allowing companies to validate concepts more quickly, carry out numerous product iterations and, above all, reduce their time-to-market."
