3D Systems and Toyota Motorsport, partners in automotive 3D printing
US-based 3D Systems has announced a new partnership with Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), the Japanese manufacturer's motorsport subsidiary, to completely rethink automotive engineering. The main objective of this collaboration is to change the way cars are designed and produced by integrating additive manufacturing solutions and adopting more efficient materials and software. Thanks to their respective expertise, 3D Systems and Toyota Motorsport should eventually create innovative 3D printing processes adapted to the high performance applications of the automotive industry.
In the motorsport sector, the search for performance is key. This includes ever higher speed and lighter components, both of which are benefits of additive manufacturing as it is able to design complex parts optimised for weight, which then leads to better overall performance.
